Plum Telemed

About Plum Telemed

The doctor’s appointment process can be frustrating and overwhelming for patients. Often, patients must navigate a complex system to find the right provider and schedule appointments. They may also have to wait a long time to get an appointment which is convenient for them.

Plum Telemed is an online platform that streamlines patient-doctor engagement. Patients can use the platform to book appointments, make online consultations, and keep a tab on their medical records hassle-free. On the other hand, providers can use the platform to manage appointments, mark availability, and access patient health records- all within one simple dashboard. This is a case study of that platform. It’s been designed for mobile users first and foremost, so it looks great and works seamlessly on any device.

Challenges Addressed by us

Even though this project was completed successfully, some challenges arose during development. One of the main challenges was getting buy-in from potential users (patients and doctors) of the platform. Since this was a new concept, both groups hesitated about using the platform. To overcome this, we did much user research and testing to get feedback about the platform and people’s thoughts.

The technical challenges faced during development include:
  • Creating a secure and reliable system.
  • Developing a system that is easy to use.
  • Creating a system that can handle a large number of users.
  • We also had to consider how to make the platform HIPAA-compliant, which added an extra layer of complexity. Ultimately, we developed a platform that both patients and doctors were happy with and met all requirements.

What Plans & Solutions We Implemented?

Once we decided on the technology to be used for the platform’s development, we started planning its functionality. We knew that one of the main requirements was to enable doctors and patients to engage in remote consultations. To make this possible, we would need to create an appointment system that would allow patients to book appointments with doctors and a video consultation system that would allow patients and doctors to communicate online. In addition, we would also need a messaging system that would allow patients and doctors to communicate with each other directly. This way, patients would be able to consult with doctors from the comfort of their homes, and doctors would be able to treat patients without having to leave their clinics.

This was the ideal setup for our development team, allowing us to create a responsive and cross-platform product.
  • Using Html and CSS allowed us to create a bespoke front end that would be compatible with all devices.
  • We then used Javascript to add animation and interactivity. For the back end, we used .Net MVC, which gave us a secure and stable platform to build on.
  • And for the database, we chose MSSQl, as it provided the necessary scalability for our product.
  • Finally, we used React Native for the mobile app, which meant we could create a high-quality product that would be compatible with Android and iOS devices.

Html/CSS, Javascript

We used HTML to create the platform’s structure, CSS to style the platform, and JavaScript to add interactivity. We created a responsive user interface for every panel (admin/doctor/staff/and patients) that would be compatible with various devices.

.Net MVC

We used .NET MVC to create a web-based interface for managing patient information, scheduling appointments, and tracking payments and insurance claims. Additionally, .Net MVC was used to create a custom reporting system that allows hospital/clinic staff to track key performance indicators and patient outcomes.

DB – MSSQl

We knew hospitals would generate a large amount of data. We used DB-MSSQl to store patient data, track appointments, and manage billing and payments in real-time. Using the DB – MSSQl was a good choice, as it can provide several benefits, such as reliability and scalability, and handle a large amount of data without compromising platform performance.

React Native for Mobile

It offers a high degree of flexibility and customizability, which is essential for a platform accommodating a wide variety of users and use cases. It also is apt for developing cross-platform apps that work seamlessly across all device types.

Once we were clear about the technology stack, the next step was to divide the work so that everyone knew what they were responsible for. Throughout the development cycle, the client communicated weekly progress reports. Based on the feedback received, our team was always willing to make updates where necessary and adapt to project changes.

When the coding stage was complete, we tested the platform manually to ensure all the features worked adequately and met the hospital’s needs. We also created a simulated environment against a set of test data to ensure that the data was processed correctly.

Features of Plum Telemed Platform

In addition to making it simple for users to connect with doctors for virtual consultations, we also wanted to make it simple for users to discover a doctor and schedule an appointment. Additionally, we wanted to make scheduling and consultation management simple for doctors.

The key features of the platform include the following:
  • Patient Records and Medical History Management
  • Digital Payment System for Online Payments
  • Data Security for Patient Information
  • Telemedicine Tools for Remote Appointments
  • Video Conferencing Tools for Real-Time Consultations
  • Automated Reminders to Keep Up With Follow-Ups and More.
